1. You are the administrative assistant for a division chief in a large holding company that owns several hotels and theme parks. You and the division chief have just come from the CEO’s office, where you were informed that the guest complaints related to housekeeping and employee attitude are increasing. Your on-site managers have mentioned some tension among workers, but have not considered it unusual. The CEO and your division chief instruct you to investigate. Suggest at least three different types of research that might be appropriate to the situation.

There are several different types of studies that can be used to research the issues that several of the hotels are faced with. To ensure the guest complaints and employee moral are addressed, the following research studies would be best for this scenario:

Descriptive Study

In this study the administrative assistant will need to clearly address several questions. Which employees and housekeeping staff are receiving complaints? Who many complaints have been received against each? What was stated in each complaint? Are the employees and housekeeping staff unhappy about their jobs? Where can management meet the employees in the middle to increase moral? How can these issues be resolved for good? This type of study will also allow the assistant to study reports on satisfied customers versus disgruntled customers.

Exploratory Study

Exploratory studies allow the research to obtain a clear idea of what the problems are. In this situation, it isn’t clear as to why there are so many complaints being filed against the housekeeping staff and hotel employees. It also not clear as to why there is tension amongst the workers. This method of study is not only effective but it also saves money and time.
