A. BRIEF HISTORY

Among all the fast food chains in the Philippines, the Jollibee Foods Corporation is considered to be the most popular choice among Filipinos and to be considered as the most popular choice among all the food chains in the country, this study will provide a brief history of the Company.

The Jollibee Foods Corporation was founded by Tony Tan Caktiong and his family as a two-branch ice cream parlor in 1975 at Cubao offering hot meals and sandwiches. The original company name was Jolibe then reformed the name Jolibe to Jolly Beeand made the two words form a single name Jollibee. After some time, they decided on getting the services of a management consultant in the person of Mr. Manuel C. Lumba. Mr. Lumba suggested that to shift their business of ice cream parlor to hamburgers after his studies showed that a much larger market was waiting to get tapped and sure enough their hamburgers became a hit for a lot of Filipinos. Then Lumba next created the product name “Yumburger” for their hamburgers as well as the name “Chickenjoy” for their fried Chicken Product. The Jollibee Foods Corporation became famous and because of this, they have decided on incorporating some expansions and acquisitions. In the year 2000, the Jollibee Foods Corporation acquired Chowking, allowing Jollibee to be part of the oriental quick service restaurant segment. In addition to their expansions and acquisitions, Jollibee also acquired Red Ribbon Bakeshop in 2005 and Delifrance in 2006 which further expanded its penetration in the food service.

Today, Jollibee has over 30 locations in other countries in the world this includes United States, Brunei, Guam, Saipan, Hong Kong and Vietnam and 750 stores in the Philippines which includes the 5 branches here in Naga City namely, Jollibee- Naga 1, Jollibee-LCC, Jollibee-SM City Naga, Jollibee-Panganiban and Jollibee-General Luna.
