1. GENERAL SITUATION:

a. Strategic Situation:

(1) General: Following the death of Iranian president Ali Ali A-hole, Iranian forces initiated warfare across the Persian Gulf and into US occupied Iraq. Iranian forces made initial gains through southern Iraq and have nearly taken the city of Karbala. US forces have stopped the initial advance along a line slightly south of Karbala. The situation has stabilized while enemy forces attempt to reconstitute their badly battered forces prior to continuation of the attack. Neither side has employed Nuclear, Biological, or Chemical munitions to date. The capability for the use of these types of weapons exists for both friendly and enemy forces; however, we consider their use remote at this time. Enemy forces have been seen planting and using Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs). You must Identify and distribute any Intel of known IEDs. After initially stopping the enemy in their current position, the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment(ACR) conducted a passage of lines with the 34th Infantry Division(Mech) which will assume responsibility for this portion of the battle effective H-hour(2400z).

(2) Friendly Forces: The 34th Infantry Division(Mech), a part of the 5th (US) Corps, has taken over the battle after a five day covering the force battle by the 11th ACR. The 8th Infantry Division(Mech) has responsibility for the area west of the 34th Infantry Division(Mech) and the 3rd Infantry Division(Mech) has responsibility for the area to the east of the 34th Infantry Division(Mech). Within the 34th ID’s sector, the 3rd Brigade in responsible for the western sector and the 1st Brigade Combat Team(BCT) is responsible for the eastern sector to include the cities of Baghdad and Karbala. The 2nd Brigade has responsibility for the rear area of operations to the north of Baghdad.
