RE: Ethical concerns of Coca Cola Products in India

The main concern of this memo is the recent attack on our company with the accusation of toxic level in our soft drink that have been made to by the Center of Science and Environment ( CSE).

CSE is a Non-Governmental Group (NGO) based in India that is comprised of journalist, engineers, scientist and environmentalist. Their main objective and presence in India is in helping bringing social awareness to the Indian population through monitoring of companies in order to help the Indian population.

The company performed an Independent study with their partner laborites and came with a conclusion that our product in the Indian market were highly toxic, and made claims of presence of toxin residue of lindane, malathion and chlorpyriofos.

The ingestion of such toxins in the body can have tremendous effects on an individual’s health, they are known to cause various cancers and ultimate fatal outcomes. As we may know India is an established and well growing market for our company, the country has over a billion people in population and an in extremely completive market in the beverage industry, not only from Pepsi but other local favorites.

The finding made accusation that the rate of these toxins in our products at a 30 times the average rate, and were not seen in the products in the European or United States market.

The study conducted by the Center of Science and Environment (CSE) creates a claim that the regulation of the soda industry by government official bodies is almost of next to nonexistence with respect of foreign companies. This claim is thoroughly refutable due to the fact all companies with production in the Indian market are regulated and held to the same standard as the local producers.
