Starbucks SWOT

The purpose of this paper is to summarize the SWOT analysis of Starbucks that was based on the case study that was provided and external resource research. I believe that it is no surprise to most people that Starbucks is, and has been, a great business success story. Of course, like all companies, there have been bumps in the road and challenges that have needed to be addressed, resolved, and otherwise overcome in order for Starbucks to maintain its growth. Like all companies in competitive markets there are variables that are both internal and external that needed to be acknowledged and finessed in order to maximize growth, profits, and success with customers and employees alike. I believe that Starbucks has exemplified these efforts throughout its history and will likely continue to do so moving forward into its history.

From its humble beginnings as a small roasting company to its current form as a giant, multinational, coffee, food, beverage, and coffee accessory purveyor, Starbucks has had to redevelop itself several times to remain relevant and profitable. In addition to simply needing to change the way it is expressing itself and its products to its customers, Starbucks has had to think carefully about how best to attract, maintain, and develop quality employees. From higher rates of pay, to educational opportunities, and enhanced employee benefits, Starbucks has looked to set itself apart from the competition continually through its life. Benefits packages including insurance, stock purchase plans, vacation time, and much more, including a steady flow of free coffee beans to take home. Starbucks has looked at these benefits as a means to retain the employees they have which causes the high costs of re-training to be less of an issue.
