Addressing Challenges of Groups and Teams

The members of learning group/team D are considered to be a task group or a group who has come together to complete a task (Robbins & Judge, 2007). Learning team D has many different styles of communicating. Every member of the team holds their own role and at the same time everyone, has their own opinions about what their role within the group should be. Now, not everyone has to agree with everyone’s perception of what each individual’s roles should be, but the important part is that there is mutual understanding and agreement within each member of the team.

It is true that everyone in learning team D brings their own unique attributes to the table. When groups of people come together, with one goal in common, it is often easy to get caught up in the little things that will make the team lose focus of the ultimate goals but they must remember that if they work together and learn to communicate, then they will succeed with much less struggle.

There are many things that can be taken from this learning group and applied to the business failure of Washington Mutual, now known as Chase. The main problem with that bank was that there was not enough communication between staff members to stop what eventually became the fall of the bank. Had there been communication between people in higher positions and their branch managers, the situations most likely, would not have gotten as far out of hand as it did.

Kerry Killlinger, the banks CEO could have communicated better with his staff and vice versa (Gharib, 2010). Although it was mostly his responsibility to make sure that all financial aspects of the company were going well, there should have been some accountability from other members of the team as well. Everyone plays a huge role in making sure that communication within the team goes smoothly.
