Why are human beings complex organism

Human beings are complex organisms because they have many different types of cells which are organized into tissues, organs and systems to ensure that the body functions efficiently and smoothly. The organisation in the human body is summarized as:

Cells > Tissues > Organs > Systems > Organism.

There are approximately 200 types of cells in the human body. Each type of cell has different shapes and sizes and performs only one specific function in the body. For example, red blood cells transport oxygen and glucose throughout the body whereas white blood cells destroy bacteria and germs. This characteristic is known as specialization of cells.

A group of similar cells work together as a unit to form tissue. There are four major types of basic tissue in the human body, namely, epithelial tissue, nerve tissue, connective tissue and muscle tissue.

A few different type of tissues group together to form an organ. For example, the small intestine, which is an organ for the digestion and absorption of digested food, is made up of muscle tissue and epithelial tissue. Organs are more complex than tissues. There are many organs in the human body. Heart, brain, lungs, liver, skin, stomach, kidneys and reproductive organs such as testis, penis and ovary are examples of organs in the human body. Each organ performs a specific function. For instance, heart act as a pump to pump blood to all parts of the body. Human beings have five sensory organs, namely the skin, nose, tongue, eyes and ears. Each sensory organ is responsible for a different sense. Sense is the ability of an organism to detect stimuli, which are the changes that occur in the surrounding. Therefore, human beings have five senses. They are the sense of touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing.

A system is formed when a group of organs work together to carry out a specific function. For instance, organs such as brain,...
