Business Communication Trends Paper

The increasing and ever changing complexity of the workplace environment has made communication essential to organizational success. Communication provides a crucial link between the core and necessary functions related to daily operations of business. Without communication within the workplace it would be nearly impossible to exchange information, build trust, encourage understanding, promote and motivate others. Effective communication improves employee satisfaction; it improves the performance of a business or organization and reduces the chance of confusion and misinterpretation or misunderstanding of the key policies and decisions that are made during the course of business. In organizations where colleague communication is good, everyone knows what the objectives, values, and vision of the company are and understand what they need to do in order to achieve success.

Technology and Communication

Communication today has taken on many different forms; due to technological advances and the introduction of vast electronic mediums the means in which information is exchanged today has transformed itself significantly from what had been used in years past. More efficient and often less costly, the use of intranets, extranets, wide area networks, local area networks, laptops, PDA’s, and mobile phones have all changed the ways in which businesses communicate around the globe. Information is sent and received instantly, time and money are saved. The use of such devices as computers, PDA’s, iPod’s, and cell phones has made work for some as easy as pushing a button; however, technology does have its drawbacks and the use of these devices are often only as good as the person who is operating them.
