World War I started out in Europe. It involved only countries in the northeast. There were two sides, Great Britain, France, and Russia versus Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. This had nothing to do with Americans. The Americans could help them battle, provide financial aid, and supplies, therefore they really needed America to join. British propaganda was pure evil. This intends to teach what exactly this propaganda is, why the British wanted America to join, specific tactics that were used, the effects it had on Americans and the outcome in the end.

"Propaganda becomes ineffective the moment we are aware of it." (Joseph Goebbels) Propaganda is information that is designed, to in some way, influence the people. (Ayers, Edward) This is exactly what the British’s purpose was! They wanted to do everything they possibly could to convince Americans to get into this war. This is the first time propaganda is a big deal. Propaganda is now surfacing for the first time. This is going to reappear in future wars. Propaganda was useful at this time because it affected the Americans. Things like Germany cutting off children’s hands off are serious. It made us wonder what they were going to do to us if they brought the “torture” over here. It made America become interested in incorporating with Great Britain. However, propaganda was not only used to influence the Americans. It promoted patriotism for the immigrants that were leaving here, and it justified the war. The propaganda made those that did support the war, send money. J.P. Morgan loaned $3 million to France and Great Britain. Some believe that if the propaganda had not come over here and touched the men like Morgan, than the US would have been less likely to try to help these two countries. Propaganda effected many people. The generalization is that the posters and ads only affected the men that were eligible for draft. Nonetheless this is absolutely false.
