Requirements Engineering – Issues and Solutions –Part 1

Introduction:

Too many issues are faced during the Requirements Engineering phase. I have listed down some of the issues that I have come across and the approaches I have used/ (plan to adapt) to overcome the issues. All issues might not be applicable for all types of projects. A person involved in or a beginner in requirements engineering can surely get some benefits out of this document. These are based on the experience while working for a client company.

The issues and solutions that I have listed might be most relevant to a Maintenance and Enhancement Data Warehousing project. Before going into the details about the issues and solutions a brief about client’s domain, the use of DW for the client and the working model of the project are also explained. Refer to the images attached and the glossary section while reading through the document.

Domain – Fleet Maintenance

This client (XXX LTD) is a Fleet Services and Management company, subsidiary company of a very big company (YYY LTD) in United Kingdom (UK). XXX takes care of the fleets of all the group companies (around 10) of YYY LTD and 10 to 12 other reputed big companies. These companies have number of fleets ranging between 200 and 25000. XXX Buys,Manages,Maintains and Disposes the Fleets for all its customers, Basically it takes care of end to end requirements of the fleets for all its customers. XXX has many teams like Fleet Management team, Fleet Technicians, Billing Team, IT team, Customer care etc. It has around 80-90 workshops/Sophisticated Garages of its own spread all over UK and also has contract arrangements with external workshops to maintain its customers vehicles. Vehicle types range between cars to HGV’s/LGV’s.
