1) If a patient is cyanotic, what does this mean?

Cyanosis is a bluish hue to the skin due to heart failure or respiratory distress, so if a patient is cyanotic, this means the patient looks a little blue because he/she cannot breathe, or their heart is failing.

2) When checking for skin cancer and moles, what does the phrase “ABCD” mean? Describe and find a picture to copy/paste (cite your source!) as an example of each letter.

Color: The mole has multiple colors or is very dark compared to other moles on the body

3) What are some recent advances in broken bone repair?

A relatively new treatment for broken bones is called an external bone growth stimulator. This stimulator uses electromagnetic or ultrasonic waves to heal the injured area. It is worn on the outside of the body, and is used to treat broken bones that either fail to heal, or do not heal correctly. A negative argument could be that it has to be worn daily in order for the stimulator to function correctly.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of chronic arthritis that is found in joints on both sides of the body. While the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, doctors believe something triggers the immune system to attack these joints.
