Pharmacodynamics- what drug does to body; drug/receptor interaction
Pharmacotherapeutics- study of use of drugs in treatment of disease; drug effect or response
Pharmacocognosy- identifying crude materials as drugs; source of drugs
Animals, plants, minerals, synthetic; microbes
Foxglove plant=digitalis used for CHF
Beef/pork pancreas=insulin for diabetes
Ephedra=ephedrine for respiratory ailments
Yams=estrogen hormone replacement therapy
Belladonna plant=source of atropine to dilate pupils
