Proposal: Windermere Preparatory School to change their schedule

Presented to: Dr. Marcy, Dr. Lyng

Date: , 2013

Introduction:

The Windermere Preparatory school now has an 7 Period Day schedule. Since a long time the headmasters are thinking about changing the schedule to a block schedule. This would bring a lot of advantages (e.g. they have fewer classes a day (4)). But what I think would be an better Idea would be a 6 period-every day changing schedule. This schedule is most common in Europe, and it works really well.

Statement of the Problem/Rationale:

The long day schedule that windermere preparatory school has at present causes many days were the students feel exhausted. The attendance is how I think a lot smaller than it could be because the students either are to tired, or they couldn't finish assignments that they then have to make up. The school expects from the students that they finish their homework for every 7 classes in the afternoon, which means a lot of time. For me it takes like 30-45 min for every class to do my homework, so that would mean 45min x 6 periods (6 because of PE, art or dance) which would make 4 ½ hours. Which is ridiculous because there is no time for after-school activities.

Proposed Solution(s):

The Solution & Its Advantages

There are two solutions that would work with the windermere preparatory school. First the schedule could, as already thought about, change to a block schedule. The block schedule would have a lot advantages for the students and also for the school. The school would not have to create an individual schedule for every student at the beginning of the year, they would just make one for the whole class. For the students it would be easier because they would have fewer classes a day therefore they would not have to carry lots of books and notebooks with them. They also wouldn't have to concentrate on 7 classes a day, which can be very complicated.

A second, and what I think better...
