Hewlett Packard: E-Menu System

Introduction:

As the Vice President of the Office of Strategy and Technology you asked me to come in here and add a section on international strategy and development and that is exactly what I have done. Hewlett Packard has not been living up to it’s potential, but the idea that I have I believe will bring it back to it’s glory days. As learned in class “companies go global to: pursue growth, efficiency, knowledge, reduce rivalry in home markets and to better serve their customer base.”

Hewlett Packard’s biggest product line is their PC’s, but I want to look more in the direction of our tablets. The reason that I want to focus on this is it is something different than what we are known for plus I feel like there is more room for growth. What I am suggesting we do is to create a tableside E-menu. I think that we need to utilize the design of our HP ElitePad. By using our current designs with just a few tweaks to size and design we will be able to launch our tableside E-menu rather quickly gaining a fist mover advantage. As learned in class the pros of the first mover advantage are proprietary technology, preemptive investments, establish entry barriers for late entrants, and relationships and connections with key stakeholders (customers, governments). The E-menu is going to be a menu that has all the attributes of a normal menu but provides this information on an interactive touch screen menu, visualized on a networked LCD screen located on table side or bar. It will offer customers a full range of ordering and interactive entertainment services, including a visual menu with quality photographs and comprehensive descriptions of each item, including additional useful information such as calorie count, on-screen ordering, multi-language selection, server request button, requesting the bill, and interactive games to entertain customers while they wait for their food.
