What Is Enterprise Resources Planning

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The objective of this research on facility decisions and facility strategy is to fulfil the requirement of BL 309 Material Management subject. This subject will covered aggregate and capacity planning, scheduling in operations, materials requirement planning, independent demand inventory system, forecasting in operation management and quality control. In the material requirement planning we have briefly introduced into Enterprise Resource Planning. Hence, this study of research will further knowledge into the Enterprise Resources Planning system.

When the ERP system is properly installed and operated, it will provide the organization and their supply chain member to have a significant competitive advantage. As the ERP system is fully utilized, the supply chain will achieve an efficiency and effectiveness within the supply chain members. Especially by accuracy on the schedule production, reducing inventory level, meeting delivery due dates and also utilizing the available capacity. There are also disadvantages of ERP system which we will further looked in part of the section later.

The ERP systems do have many types of modules that link the supply chain member together in sharing the same database. Each module has its own function and differences. This software is designed in a way that is compatible to their competitor’s products to allow combination from different providers. Therefore, we will also discuss the type of modules of ERP systems.
