-The average adult has about 5 liters of blood.
2. What are the components of blood?
-45% of blood is made up of rbc, wbc and platelets
-55% is made up of plasma which is composed of water, amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins, hormones, electrolytes and cellular waste)
3. What does the hematocrit measure?
-Hematocrit measure the number and volume of cells.
4. What percentage of blood is cells?
-45% of blood is composed of cells
5. What percentage of blood is made of plasma?

6. What do erythrocytes look like and what is their function?
-An erythrocyte is also known as a red blood cell and they help carry oxygen into the body. An erythrocyte is usually disk-shaped and bi-concaves. It contains hemoglobin and does not have a nucleus.
7. How do mature erythrocytes differ from immature ones?
-Mature erythrocytes are flexible and concave disks that do not have a nucleus; however, immature ones are much more fragile and are very brittle.
8. What is a normal RBC Count?
-A normal RBC count measures the amount of red blood cells in a sample and makes an estimate of how much there is in an average person’s blood. For children, the normal count ranges from 4.6-4.8 million/uL. For women, the average range is 4.2-5.4 million and for men, it falls in between 4.7-6 million.
9. What makes blood red?
-The protein called hemoglobin makes blood red. The hemoglobin contais iron and is found in the red blood cells.
10. How long does the average RBC live?
-The average life of a RBC is about 120 days.
11. What hormone controls the rate of rbc synthesis?
-RBC production and synthesis is stimulated by a protein called erythropoietin.
12. What element is part of a red blood cell?...
