Correction Trends

In the justice system there are many different ways the correctional system has evolved when dealing with crime.

The criminal justice system has transitioned in many different ways over the centuries. Though many crimes associated with the correctional system are not as extreme as in the past they still show some of the characteristics today. When thinking of correctional institutions we generally associate it with exacting the correct punishment for crimes committed by an individual against the justice system and humanity. However in looking back we can sometimes see that the severity of punishments were much more intense than today, because the system became more sophisticated in later years because a more proper justice was put into place. Since institutions were designed to keep criminals off the street so citizens can feel safe and further try and deter many crimes from reoccurring, it is important that these facilities have the proper administration operating them so they can run smoothly. As we try and continue to keep the system under control it still needs more work done on it to modify and control the things that make the system work. I believe in doing so the correctional institution can operate on a sufficient manner by having experienced staff to properly administer the jobs that need to be done.

As we research we find that punishment and treatment generally involve two extremes on a continuum of approaches for the disposition of offenders who had been found guilty of the offenses they had committed. However it also stresses that punishment is the only way to protect citizens and society against crime by using incarceration as a way of exacting retribution, incapacitation, and deterrence.
