A brief introduction of the article

This is a descriptive study on relationship between the resources provided to outlet managers and the financial performance of franchise chains is contingent on their governance structure. The design of this study is not too complex and the data given the statistical data is relatively simple. Like most of the studies described, this research is done not intended to answer the question why it only wanted to test some theories and sets the foundation for further research later.

Statement of the research problem

The researchers state that “Compare to governance issues, performance issues have received little attention in the franchising context. …In this study, I explore the joint impact of resources and governance structure on the financial performance of franchise chains” (J.Barthelemy, p.1452). J. Barthelemy’s study was designed to test some hypotheses on interaction of brand name value, proportion of franchised outlets, and service-type franchising on chain performance in France.

The researcher provides an adequate literature review on franchising. It discusses current research on the problem, and helps to situate the author’s own research. The research objectives are clearly stated and hypotheses are identified.

Methodology

The researcher has presented a theoretical background and offers some hypotheses can be tested. Also, the study also provides information about how he collected data.
