The World Class Manufacturing Programme focuses on the following key areas:

Peer Reviews to CTCIP firms

The Peer Reviews are facilitated by a team from B&M Analysts in Durban.  These events are open to all Cluster members and operate on a rotational basis whereby firms participating in the CTCIP programme take turns to host the event. Participants then share their experiences, both good and bad and are thereby able to learn from one another.  

Lean Best Practice Study Tours

Acting as an extension to the Peer Reviews, the Best Practice Study tours allow participating firms to visit leading facitlities in other cities and learn from their experiences as well.  These tours primarily take participants to firms in the sister cluster (CCTC) and likewise bring firms from the Cape to visit the best firms of the KZN CTC.

To ensure that the learning from the support projects and from other practices are circulated and amplified, the Cluster will continue organising and hosting best practice study tours. By inviting other business representatives into the factories undergoing change, the mechanisms of peer pressure and peer learning are enabled, both of which should a) ensure visitors learn the practicalities relating to the specific project and b) the hosts are more likely to engage seriously with the work as they are required to teach and are “on show”.

Case Studies

The KZN CTC has been at the forefront of new knowledge creation in the industry over the past 6 years.  As an increasingly knowledge based industry, it is critical that KZN CTFL firms are able to access information and learn faster than their competitors

In order to ensure the learning and knowledge are codified and shared even more widely, the projects will be studied and converted into case study material.
