Importance of Behavior Exhibited by Managers

The purpose of this memo is to inform all first-level mangers of what is expected of them. As you all know InterClean will be undergoing some changes. One of those changes is the merge with EnviroTech. First-level managers will be the key components in making a smooth transition. The whole management team will be expected to lead by example. Management will revert from the ‘Do as I say, Not as I do” mentality and instead focus on a ‘Do as I Do’ way of thinking. Management will start being held accountable for their actions as well as their employees. Because managers play the biggest role in whether workers put more effort into their jobs (The Ohio State University, 1999), it is important for all managers to uphold to a high-quality performance level. Employees may not have the knowledge, skills, motivation, or aptitude to perform effectively, but managers should consider the possibility that they themselves may be contributing substantially to employees' inadequate performance (Von Bergen, 2002). If an employee is lagging behind in a specific area it is quite possible that the manager responsible for that employee is lagging behind in the area as well. Therefore, it is advised to all management to take a step back and examine one’s own work performance before inquiring about your staff’s work performance.

First-level managers should take initiative in motivating their employees to strive to do better at all time’s. Managers will not only be expected to instruct their employees, but also to coach and motivate them. The biggest...
