Introductory

The philosophy of my childcare program is to provide countless opportunities for children to learn and develop individually in a developmentally, age-appropriate, and hands-on learning environment. Children in this program are encouraged to explore their environment, and learn through experiences of play.

As a nationally accredited center, we put a lot of focus on the ten Early Childhood Program Standards developed by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). These standards are: relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of child progress, health, teachers, families, community relationships, physical environment, and leadership and management. Provided below are five of the standards, and some examples of activities or scenarios seen in our program to meet the specific standards.

I. Relationship

A. Teaching staff evaluate and change their responses based on individual needs.

Teaching staff vary their interactions to be sensitive and responsive to differences amongst children (naeyc, 2012).

a. Teachers are sensitive to children’s individual needs.

b. Teachers take time to get to know individual children, and learn the best

approach and learning style for them.

c. Teachers meet the differing needs of children while maintaining fair treatment

of all children.

B. “Teachers communicate with families on an on-going basis” (naeyc, 2012).

II. Curriculum
