Advice on How to Effectively Use Interpersonal Communication in a Relationship

Dear Newly Engaged Couple,

I want to start off by saying congratulations on your recent engagement; one could only imagine how excited you both must be. I am truly honored that from all the experts who specialize in Interpersonal Communication, you chose to take advice from me, who has only the knowledge that I have acquired from a course at Ashford University. Although I am not classified as an expert, I assure both of you that I have a lot of helpful advice to give you on how to effectively use interpersonal communication in your relationship. Getting married is one of the most exciting times in a young couples life; however, there are often times when marriage can sometimes be very challenging and I think it is absolutely marvelous that you two are taking the initiative to learn more about using interpersonal communication in your relationship before you tie the knot per say. As I stated earlier, I am no expert on the subject, but I would love to share with you some of the important elements that I have learned and use personally in my own marriage. Although others may disagree, in my opinion, some of the most important elements that you will need to understand and practice in order to effectively communicate with each other include: to develop good listening strategies; identify what roles perception, emotions, and nonverbal expression plays in interpersonal relationships; learn about emotional intelligence and how it is used in successful interpersonal relationships; learn the appropriate levels of self-disclosure to use in your relationship; last but not least, develop strategies that will be used to help manage your interpersonal conflicts.
