Do you Learn Anything at the Zoo

According to the article “Do you Learn Anything at the Zoo,” (2009), author Ferguson shares his experience at the zoo. He is an active visitor of the zoo, on seeing unkind behavior of visitors with the animals; he thinks that we visitors should be in the cage and not the animals. During his visit to the zoo he feels that few visitors even do not take a look at the instruction written near the animal’s cage. Few people move so fast that they even forget to see some animals in between. On observing this author feels that visitors hardly learn anything from their visit to the zoo.

Further, author talks about school field trips to zoos, he thinks that zoo trip is advantageous for school going kids as they would be able to see different kinds of animals, but in reality children does not learn anything from it, as they do not take it seriously. He feels sad on hearing that adults cannot pronounce name of animals properly, when the names are given by them. For example, Orangutan some adults find it difficult to pronounce, they pronounce ‘g’ at the end, when there is no ‘g’ at the end. According to the author, how one can take care of animals when they do not know how to pronounce their name properly.

In the end author talks about Polar bear who are kept in the cage, He thinks that if in reality people were concerned about animals, then they would help save Polar bear from death. Lastly, author has said very interesting thing on seeing the endanger sign at the zoo; he states that after death of animals next turn is of human beings.
