Reproductive and endocrine system

The reproductive system is the creation of specialised cells such as sex cells and gametes (sperm and eggs.) In these gametes, characteristics of each parent are found and transferred to make a baby. When the sperm and egg join, it is called fertilisation. This is how a baby is made. Once the foetus is created, it will contain genes from both parents.

The male reproductive system. The male reproductive system has 3 main functions to start the reproduction. The testes produce sperm. The penis ejaculates into the female reproductive system where the sperm will be fertilised. The testes produce testosterone.

The testes located in the scrotum is where the sperm is produced. The testes temperature is lower than normal body temperature so the sperm doesn’t die. Sperm is kept in the epididymis which is just behind the testes. When sperm is ready to be released, it travels along the vas deferens tube and past the prostate gland where it will now receive fluid to help keep it healthy and alive. Once the sperm and fluid are mixed, it becomes semen.

In an erection, all the blood rushes to the penis causing it to become bigger and stiff. The penis is the main body part when having sexual intercourse. Once the male has reached his max arousal level, he will be ready to ejaculate and the semen travels up the Urethra and ends up inside the female’s vagina. After the ejaculation, the blood from the erect penis goes back into the body and the penis then becomes soft and decreases in size.

Epididymis is a small tube hidden just behind the testes. This is where the sperm is stored. When the penis is ready to ejaculate, the sperm will travel up the vans deferens which is connected to the Urethra. Once the sperm reaches the vans deferens...
