Final Project

Diversity is just that, diverse. When I thought of prejudice and discrimination the first thought that came to mind was race. After looking into more diversity in the United States I realized that diversity includes more than just race, it covers the differences of people from head to toe. America really is a melting pot when it comes to diversity. There are people with all different backgrounds all over the United States. When you look at the diversity in the United States you can see that those with similar backgrounds do seem to move together. If you look at a map you are able to see that many areas throughout the US have a more dominate race. As the years go on you can see that the gaps between the diversity are growing smaller and more and more cultures are blending together. I truly believe that America is one of the most diverse nations among the world and I hope it continues to be and that prejudice and discrimination can one day end.

I am Japanese, Irish, Scottish, Christian woman and there has been so much that I have learned about my background. For one I never realized how differently women are still treated in comparison to their male counter parts. I was lead to believe that we live in a more equalized nation. I know that we have prejudice and discrimination but when it came to women’s rights I was lead to believe that we were equal. I have learned that women have a long way to go. They are still under paid in comparison to men; they are also denied jobs for their gender. My grandma is Japanese and when she spoke about going to America she made it sound wonderful and great. When I looked in the history of what the Japanese went through, I was given a much more harsh interpretation. Maybe I was young and naïve, and thought that all the Japanese that came here had the same experience as my grandmother. I was wrong and what my eyes were open to was really shocking and scary.
