Changes in organizations

Organizations have undergone radical changes prior to the mid twentieth century. These changes can be classified as first order and second order, and various concepts of change exist according to Meyer and brooks (palmer 85). Various organizational changes that are likely to confront managers include; the introduction of new technologies, downsizing, mergers and acquisitions. My study will be based on the various changes that nestle company has undergone and the implications of managing theses changes. I will also review the approaches of change model adopted at nestle and the role of the top management in managing these changes.

Managing change at nestle

Nestle is one of the largest food companies in the world. The company was funded in 1866 by Henri nestle and it is headquartered in Switzerland. The company’s products include, ice creams, milk based products, beverages and pharmaceutical products. Nestle rose to be one of the most flourishing companies in Switzerland and America over the years. Nestle company underwent many organizational changes both first order and second order. A decision like the relocation of its most executive offices from Switzerland to the United States was the first order. Bearing in mind the threat posed by the world war II and the Nazi of Germany nationalizing their companies in occupied countries. Another first order change was the decision to acquire L'Oreal and Alcon Laboratories as both acquisitions could change the nestle culture.

These first order changes in nestle helped in building the companies core strengths and growth. This facilitated nestles survival and maintaining its position in a rapidly expanding economy.
