Introduction
The case study to be discussed in this paper involves the president of Community Medical Hospital and the decisions he/she will have to make regarding a surgical nurse who is believed to be infected with HIV/AIDs. The chief of surgery has come to the president stating that if the nurse is not removed from the surgical team about 50 surgeons will schedule their surgeries across town at a competing hospital. This could have a devastating economical effect on the hospital. When the nurse in question was approached and ask to take a non-patient involved position with the same, pay, work hours, and shift the nurse threatened legal action against the hospital. Also the problem the hospital is facing has been leaked to the press by a staff member and the press is expecting a decision about the matter within 24 hours of the leak. This paper will examine the mission and vision of the hospital and how the mission and vision will help the president come to a decision regarding the nurse in question. It will also discuss how the decision will be presented to the hospital staff, the nurse in question, and the press.
Mission and Vision
The mission and or vision of an organization clearly states the objectives of the organization and how it plans to achieve those objectives. The mission is usually one meaningful statement that displays what the hospital stands for. The Mission of Community Medical hospital could be “We as a hospital value our patient’s health first and foremost and we strive to ensure our patients will receive the best care possible.” The vision is usually a statement that shows where and how the organization intends to grow and progress in the future.
