Executive Summary and Recommendations:

The overall findings state that healthy corporate cultures lead to organizational behaviors that create sustainability and profitability. BP should adopt a matrix organizational design with clear lines of communication between units. The CEO as well as upper level management should be aware of information within the organization and help foster accountability and integrity.

Recommendation #1

BP must follow regulatory procedures listed by the Bureau of Ocean Management Regulation and Enforcement as well as mandate training for upper level managers and the CEO. The outcome of adhering to regulatory procedures will be that upper level managers and the CEO will be held accountable for failing safety operations.

Recommendation #2

The creation of a safety contingency plan that specifies cleanup technologies using developed procedures, and well trained employees who can respond quickly to emergency situations and have the ability to contain future spills.

Recommendation #3

BP should implement long term success by embracing a non-bottom line mentality where workplace ethics are not seen as an obstacle to the main goal of profit.

Recommendation #4

Upper management should be held accountable for the ethical core values of lower level employees by modeling the values that they themselves created. Top management must be accountable because they are the component that creates the organizational climate.
