With a choice to rebuild in Lawrence or relocate to another country like most textile companies have already done, Aaron Feuerstein decided to remain in Massachusetts because he was commitment to the employees of the company. The decision to continue to pay the employee’s wages and rebuild the company was an ethically superior decision to other options because the decision reaffirmed his values, his commitment to the employees, and the community that he believed in. The employees and the community counted on the continued existence and operation of the company because of the financial impact it created. I think if Feuerstein had made the decision for any other reason, then his ethical judgment would be questionable.

I agree with the decision to rebuild and remain in the community, but I think I would have taken a slightly difference direction on the continued wages and benefits. There needed to be responsible actions taken to secure the future of business and not just the employees in the short term. There is an obligation to promote and sustain a healthy future for the business so that the employees can continue to earn their wages. I believe that making sound business choices will many times have a longer lasting impact allowing the employees to enjoy a healthier future even though it may require actions that result in some short term sacrifice or hardship.

Servant leader, generous, thoughtful, and considerate are initial words that come to mind. A non-conformist in a sense that he didn’t act upon what many other companies might suggest is the appropriate action. However, as I think a little deeper into the case and the long term results of his actions, I also believe he was slightly irresponsible. Feuerstein was acting upon his belief that the employees are the main asset of the company. His moral character and faith contributed to his decision to care for the employees, but I think his emotions might have clouded his judgment because...
