An Analysis of Values and Affect on Performance

MGT/521 – Management

Abstract

In today’s business world, values and ethical decision-making play a large role in the development and growth of individuals and organizations. The following will identify my ethical perspectives and style as well as those of Kudler Fine Foods. This analysis will reveal the effects on my performance if I were at manager at this organization.

“In his book entitled Leadership without Easy Answers, Ronald Heifetz (1994) proposed that Leaders can do many things to promote ethical practices in organizations. The leaders own actions provide an example of ethical behavior to be imitated by people who admire and identify with the leader. Leaders can set clear standards and guidelines for dealing with ethical issues,”(Yuki, p.424). In order to better understand my values and ethical perspectives, I completed the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self-assessment. The outcome stated that I tend to base my ethical perspective on the results or consequences of my actions. Results are key to my values. If a plan is put into place it is important to follow through in order to hit the aforementioned goals. It is important to talk the talk, but more important to walk the walk.

The self-assessment also focused on my ethical style. An important aspect to achieving results, is creating an environment that people enjoy working in. “Influence is the essence of leadership, and powerful leaders can have a substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization,” (Yuki, p.417). Positive work environments make it easier for employees to work collectively to achieve personal and organizational goals.
