Are they Risk Factors or Not?

No matter who, where, or what someone does in today’s way of living with the present economy it leads to the same conclusion which no one sees until the consequences are enforce. But what really does cause this? In today’s economy there are many different factors such as; Government System, Survival, and Damages. Reading “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich and “Teaching Literature at the County Jail” by Christina Boufis have showed some similarities in why these three factors might be risk factors to the economy in overall.

Every now and then the Government goes thru some type of revaluation in budgeting better to have a better the living. Ehrenreich Speaks on how certain agencies get together to come up with certain numbers for the standard wages. For example the National Coalition for the Homeless, and Preamble Center for Public Policy Ehrenreich states, “According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, for example in 1998 it took on average nationwide, an hourly wage of $8.89 to afford a one-bedroom apartment, and the Preamble Center for Public Policy estimates that the odds against a typical welfare recipient’s landing a job at such a “living wage” are about 97 to 1” (197). Who are these agencies and do they evaluate form experience or statistics. Not only that but from where or what locations are they assessing the situation. Boufis also mention how budgets and certain programs aren’t really gauging the situation correctly. She mentions, “I arrived in San Francisco in 1994, as a new county jail was being built. That year also marked turning point in California’s history: it was the first time the state’s corrections budget exceeded that of the entire University of California system.” (67) Once again whoever is appointing these programs to make certain decisions isn’t correctly doing their research.
