Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote articles and speeches that depicted the need of increased women’s rights as well as writing an autobiography. In addition, she formed organizations for equal rights and women’s suffrage.

Stanton successfully formed the National Women Suffrage Association and served as the president. In addition, she won property rights for women, equal custody of the children, and liberalized divorce laws.

She worked with Susan B. Anthony throughout her career and even had the word “obey” removed from her marriage ceremony because she was for women’s rights and was against women “obeying” men. Outside of women’s rights, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was also against slavery.

Not necessarily fanatical about women’s rights, Stanton was just very passionate and dedicated to her work. As stated, she wrote speeches and articles as well as performing in organizations such as the NWSA or the National Women Suffrage Association.

Stanton left a lasting impact as she increased women’s rights in general. While founding the National Women Suffrage Association, she also made it possible for women to leave marriages that were harmful to them or their children as well as their economic well-being.
