This document explores and identifies the organizational structure of traditional and online retail business. It discusses the leadership and management issues, also the similarities and differences of the retailers. |

There are many different levels and challenges that come with the management of a retail business. From traditional retailers to online retailers the business has grown and expanded into the world wide web of commerce. Although traditional retailers and online retailers are in the same business of making money there are different ways in organizing, maintaining and running a profitable business.

To understand the differences between these two types of retail businesses, we must first understand the structure of each retail business type. For traditional retailers the business structure is simpler to a certain degree. The organizational structure of a retail store will vary by the size and type of the business. Most tasks involved with operating a retail business will be the same. However, small or independent retail stores may combine many sections together under one division, while larger stores create various divisions for each particular function along with many layers of management.

For example, the small specialty shop may have all of its employees under one category called Store Operations. A large department store may have a complete staff consisting of a manager, assistant manager and sales associates for its Sporting Goods department, Home and Garden, Bed and Bath, and each additional department. Online retail businesses structure are mainly the same, the biggest difference would be the way and outlet for marketing and promotion and also sales of the product. So what are some of the challenges that management and leadership face in the traditional and online retail world?...
