Chapter 5 Case Incident “The Nice Trap “

Do you think there is a contradiction between what employers want in employees (agreeable employees) and what employees actually do best (disagreeable employees)? Why or why not?

This case study focus on one dimension of the Big Five Trait model of personality. Agreeableness is ''a personality dimension that describes someone who is good natured, cooperative and trusting''. There is a contradictions between having an agreeable and disagreeable employees in an organisation. Having agreeable employees in an organisation will provide a supportive working environment which will create a comfortable environment for communication, since agreeable employees tend to be pleasant, tolerant, warm, cooperative, flexible and tactful. On the other hand, disagreeable employees are likely to be cold, aggressive, quiet, shy and distant.

The case study believes that employers are looking for agreeable employees which would be true in jobs such as customer service. However, in situations where employers want to hire candidates for strategic positions with strong leadership behaviours, this would absolutely not be the same. According to the question first we discuss the contradiction of agreeable employees and disagreeable employees. Fisrt, let us go through the definition of contradiction so we will deeply understand the whole picture of what will be discuss in this question. Contradiction is define as; to assert or express the opposite of (a statement), to deny the statement of, or to be contrary to; be inconsistent with.Based on the above case study, I noted a confusion of an employer in choosing the right behaviour in hiring the new employee.
