The three leaders in this scenario have three distinct and different leadership styles. I will identify each as either transactional, transformational or “level 5”. First is the Executive A, who has been credited with much of the company’s success over the last years. Under his leadership the company has prospered and market share has risen by 128%. I find that Executive A is a “Level 5” leader. These leaders regularly demonstrate deep personal humility with intense personal will. These leaders routinely credit others for their company’s success. If there are poor results they will take the blame for themselves. These leaders rely on inspired standards and not charisma to get the job done. In addition to being humble they are also superb at selecting successors. They want the company to succeed, even after they are gone. These type leaders are rarity in the corporate world, but when found the companies they head shoot to the top and stay there. It is because of these reasons that I firmly believe Executive A level 5 leader.

Leader B is one of the candidates set to become CEO after Executive A retires. While Leader B has worked closely with Executive A, and values his long-term vision and ideas his style is much different than Executive A. Leader B’s leadership style is what I would consider Transactional. A Transactional leader is a leader who guides or motivates their followers in the direction of established goals by clarifying role and task requirements. (Judge, 2012) These leaders tend to be more concerned with the end result and the exchange of rewards for effort. As they are more concerned with these results these types of leaders tend to watch and search for deviation from the roles or required tasks.
