Wk2day7 Assignment: Attachment Style and Relationships

Earlier in life depending on aninfant’s care givers interaction will have an effect on the way an infant’s bonds with their parents.

The bond between the infants and care giver are yield into three different attachment styles, they are, secure, avoidance, and anxious.

For example if an infant experiences warm and responsive care giver that make the infant feel secure, the infant will become up set and cry if the care giver were to leave a room in an unfamiliar place. Then upon the care giver return the infant run up to the care giver. Then the infant will go back to being relaxed.

A care giver who is cold and rejecting will make the infant feel avoidance. The infant will cry when the care giver leaves the room of an unfamiliar place but soon stop. On the returning the care giver the infant continues to do what he/she was doing, acting unresponsive to the fact the parent returned unlike the infant who felt secure and was happy and responsive to the parent coming back.

An infant who has care giver that is ambivalent and inconsistent, the infant will show anxiety. When the care giver tries to leave the infant in an unfamiliar setting the infant becomes clingy and cries not like he/she doesn’t want the care giver to leave them. Then when the care giver returns to the room where the infant is, the infant becomes hostile, or uncaring to the care giver. These infants are the one that tend to still cry and be upset even after their care giver tries to console and trying to be apologetic for leaving the infant. Unlike the secure and avoidant infant, the anxious infant shows mixed and confused emotions whereas the other is ones are direct emotion.
