“There are four commonalities among the many definitions of leadership: (1) leadership

is the process between a leader and followers, (2) leadership involves social influence, (3)

leadership occurs at multiple levels in an organization (at the individual level, for example,

leadership involves mentoring, coaching, inspiring, and motivating; leaders also build culture

and generate cohesion, and resolve conflicts at the group level), and (4) leadership focuses on

goal accomplishment. Based on these commonalities leadership is the process whereby an

individual influences others to achieve a common goal.”

In this paper I will discuss my leadership style using the leader member exchange. In

addition, I will interpret and explain my scores on mutual affection, loyalty, contribution to work

activities, and professional respect dimensions. The theory of leader member exchange is the

model of leadership that revolves around the development of dyadic relationships between

managers and employees. The leader and each individual member of a work group have a unique

relationship. Judgements are made and opinions are formed by the leader and member that help

establish different relationships on different levels. This model focuses on the quality of

relationships between managers and employees as opposed to the behaviors or traits of either

leaders or followers. Most people expect for leaders to treat all employees in about the same

way, but the leader member exchange is based on the assumption that leaders develop unique

one to one relationships with each employee reporting to them. This relationship is known as the
