My field research that I conducted was based on the Jehovah Witness religion. I was able to attend a service on December 2, 2012 and found numerous areas that I found interesting. First of all I had quite a few misconceptions about this religion. One such misconception was that I believed that this religion did not believe in Jesus. Upon interviewing a Jehovah Witness (Maurice Howard) who was that was sitting next to me on the misconception that their religion does not believe in Jesus I discovered that this was far from truth. Maurice mentioned to me that the Jehovah Witness religion does in fact believe in Jesus but they portray him in a different way. He explained to me that the Jehovah Witness religion believes that Jesus is the son of God just like the Christian religion but they do not believe that Jesus is God.

I interviewed Eduardo Hurtado who was another Jehovah’s Witness that attended mass. I asked him about another misconception I had about his religion. I informed him that when I was a child I would always hear that Jehovah Witnesses were viewed as a “cult” type of religion due to them being private with their religious practices. Eduardo informed me that I was totally misinformed about that perception. He pointed out to me that Jehovah Witnesses encourage individuals to attend their services at their Kingdom Halls by interacting with them out in public. This made sense to me and totally contradicting from what I observed as a child that they are a secluded religion. Eduardo also pointed out that if they were a secluded and private religion would they be going out to people’s homes and trying to get them to know about their religion.
