* Subject Synopsis

This course examines the environment pertaining to international financial management. It begins with an exploration of the environment in which international financial management takes place, foreign exchange markets and the determination of exchange rates. It then examines the nature of foreign exchange risk management both from both accounting and economic perspectives. It is followed by the study of multinational working capital management where various types of trade financing for importers and exporters are further explored. The subject concludes with foreign investment analysis and international capital budgeting.

* Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Define the evolution of business entity up to multinational corporations (MNC) and understand the various characteristics and motives of multinational corporations.

2. Demonstrate understanding of the foreign exchange market, determinants of exchange rates and the impact of exchange rate fluctuations and risks involved and the various alternative exchange rate systems

3. Demonstrate understanding of the international financing process and international markets for short-term and long term fund

4. Assess, analyze and suggest appropriately methods of managing economic exposures and the various translation methods

5. Decide on the various hedging tools to protect multinational corporations against foreign exchange risk like forward contracts, futures contract and currency options
