The paper today will define what a third world country (developing country) is, an overview of Jamaica, some challenges the country has faced politically, socially, economically and some advancements. There will be media events discussed from the last five to ten years; good and bad events will be included in the media events sections. In the following paragraphs will go in detail about what problems third world countries face, some media events that have helped and harmed the country. Jamaica is a true third world country, but it has potentials to be a great economy power in the world if the leaders can put their differences aside and work as one.

A third world country is defined as a country that has one developed city and the rest are undeveloped. There are problems economically, socially and politically, however, most third world country is run by either a corrupt government or a dictatorship. Under-developed countries have one area that is nice and the tourists see, then there is the area that is run down, destroyed and the poor people live. These areas are disease infested, the education is horrible, food is scarce and the working conditions are horrible. Most, third world countries rule by force. The rich get richer and the poor suffers. The third world country that will be discussed in this paper is Jamaica.

Jamaica is the largest island in the Caribbean next to Cuba and Hispaniola, the island is also an independent state in the Commonwealth. The capital and largest city in Jamaica is Kingston. The area has mountains and coastal plains, the weather is tropical; the four major cities are Kingston, Montego Bay, Saint Andrew and Spanish Town. As of 2009, the population was 2, 825, 928 people and the languages spoken are Patios and English. In 1962, the country gained its independence and wrote its constitution (Affairs, 2010).
