Why people Behave The Way They Do

To be able to effectively influence other people the leader must first know, understand and master his own self. He should be able to determine and come to terms with the holes in his personality, be fully aware of his genetic and memetic endowment and must identify his VABEs (also which are his core values). He must also identify the defence mechanisms he uses to protect his self-concepts. Doing these will 1) help the leader to identify the emotional needs of his team members and be there for them (not to bare the tag "it's all about him"; 2) help him take control of himself, take responsibility of his response to events and not be

"a passenger on the train of history"; 3) help him identify the need of change and apply changes to himself(VABEs and Self-concepts) when necessary. In short this present him as "authentic" to the team he leads.

The leader, haven done these, must also seek to identify these factors (holes, genetic and memetic endowments, and VABEs) in the people he leads and/or seeks to influence by critically observing their actions (behaviours) and try to deduce the link between the actions and the events that produced them, and also by paying attention to the various signals that a person gives about himself. Once these observations have been confirmed to be true, the leader can then find ways and strategies to initiate changes or influence the team towards a desired goal.
