In both Takes 1&2 John seems to think that he does not need the assistance of an advocate. He also thinks that his family has a hidden agenda for asking an advocate to work with him. As a result he starts out being very guarded in these interviews and doesn't allow the advocate to gain any insight as to what his needs are and how they can help. John perceives himself as "less than" when compared to his other siblings. His brothers and sister are all self-sufficient and he feels that his parents consider him him too reliant on them for his well-being. This perception by John leaves him alienating himself as a result of his condition and the fact that he is the only one of the children that is still at home doesn't help the situation. It seems that John has a feeling that he may be a burden and that in light of the fact that his siblings are all independent and out of the house that he is somewhat of an outcast.

John feels that his caregivers have some sort of hidden agenda. His initial apprehension to even speak to the advocate is evidence that it didn't occur to him that the advocate had his best intentions at heart. His skepticism was the major obstacle in the advocate's ability to obtain any information regarding his condition. His response to every question that was asked of him came across as hostile or at the very least defensive. The attached scripting to both these audio clips re-confirms via the patients facial expressions/body language his unwillingness that is obvious in his overall tone. I do feel that his paranoia is partly attributed to his frustration that he may be a burden on his parents. His parents are concerned about his well-being, however, as the advocate suggests their concerns could subside slightly if John learns how to understand and deal with his hemophilia on his own.
