Agree to Disagree: Ways to Resolving Conflicts

Conflict resolution becomes evident everyday in the world we live in. Georgia and Russia has recently been countries side by side for many years. Recently they became foes of each other and United States had to come in and establish some conflict resolution strategies for the countries. It ended with Georgia submitting to a number of Russia’s demands. This is the accommodating strategy that is used. Conflict can develop and ways of solving those differences can be done through compromising, accommodating, avoiding and listening to expertise.

Conflict resolution requires that both parties be willing search for mutually acceptable solutions (Greskowiak, 2008). Compromising is meeting someone halfway on an idea. The idea may only partially satisfy each member but it can give everyone a chance to have an idea. When you have deadline and the opposing member has took a strong position on the subject this may be the easiest solution. Splitting the difference will give the team members and yourself a position within the project.

Accommodation is another strategy that is more of a sacrifice to get the project complete. The accommodation process can be used when time limits arise. It is quick and you can maintain your relationship with your member and later get something in return. The “I scratch your back and you scratch mine” method will have you to surrender your beliefs but will keep the members happy.

Team expertise takes communication within this process. Everyone will need to sit down and be open to what other people know. If a team member has more experience in the subject then the team must listen and collaborate. All team members know a little more than each other in various subjects and they should develop what they are knowledgeable in and sort it out.
