Art Form Comparison

The creative process for The Great Wall of Los Angeles started by Judy Baca Aanonymous, n.d) in the 1970’s. On Judy Baca’s website the reader is able to read Baca’s biography; also, the reader finds the process that it took to create one of the longest murals around the word. Baca does her murals thinking about the process to make them and the result (Anonymous, n.d).

To Baca, the memories need to be expressed, creating art that has a relationship with history. Baca along with the people who work with her create “monumental public art” (Anonymous, n.d).

Baca’s mural used the public space to transform social and physical environments. People from many background participated in The Great Wall of Los Angeles, living the testimony of many cultures in the mural. Baca says that in the process to create the mural was art, she says “because in that process a single creative vision was carried out; a vision that was both inclusive of other artistic expressions and was a people’s retelling of their own history” (Anonymous, n.d).

Baca founded SPARC (the Social and Public Art Resource Center) in 1976 to promote civic dialogue, to address social issues and to foster cross-cultural understanding (Judybaca.com, n.d). Baca continues amplify the voices of marginalized people and provides a different vision of what art can do (Judybaca.com, n.d).

Not that much information is found on the painters of the Lascaux Cave paintings because the painting were done about 15,000 years ago; however, some of the paintings show us the painters had precision and were dedicated to their paintings (Borade, 09). Research show that the art went beyond decorating the cave because it does not look like people lived at the caves for a long time, instead, research shows that the painters were trying to preserve and transmit information (Borade, 09). The Lascaux Cave Paintings show the people visiting the inhabitants of the era.
