“AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines” (www.astrazeneca.com). This case study was focused on how the company could transform the delivery time of new medication and its introduction to the public. The company’s primary focus was to strategize how they could develop a system that would create new and improved prescription drugs that would benefit the patient in a different way, increase the business internationally, restructure the company and increase its efficiency and creativity. David Brennan (the CEO of AstraZeneca UK) realized that the company was well overdue for an innovative change and initiated a strategic plan to transform the industry.

The pharmaceutical industry has progressed in such an innovative way that Brennan’s idea to apply a strategic plan to bring new medicines to new patients has been a great asset to the company and its consumers. Brennan also focused on several strategies to introduce new pharmaceuticals to the industry while applying new business methods. Brennan implemented a strategic plan that created a new improved line of medication that would benefit not only patients but improve the business globally as well. The markets future was becoming less predictable due to a transformation of the industry. Like most of the pharmaceutical industry AstraZeneca were experiencing drastic changes in the market due to “less patient protection, more competition from generic drugs, stiffer government regulations, and decreased productivity in research and development” (Yemen, G., Scott, A. & Snell, E. 2012).
