The topic of this seminar were the assignment requirements, and a case scenario on security issues with the Banana Tree Travel Agency. How security is usually compromised by people, whether phishing, which is a person trying to pass as an authenticated user to glean inappropriate access. Types of strategies by hackers, trying to get passwords from other employees, Flashing, which is someone sending a command to a unit, filling the screen with garbage, and would require them to terminate their session. Other types of hacking techniques are buffer overflow, man in the middle, the evil twin, a trojan horse, IP spoofing, and a zero-day exploit. There are many security measures that can be taken to protect the security of a system. The administrator should provide password requirements for all employees, ones requiring at least one upper case letter, at least eight letters, and two digits. A training class, instructing employees on how to properly set a password,and where they should store them.

Administrators should not use the default password, as it makes it easier for hacker to access. Preferably not on a post-it stuck to their computer. Servers, switches, and routers are susceptible to invasions. One way a hacker gets in is through an unused port. A port scanner will detect any open ports, which can then be rectified by an administrator. Keeping track of current employees, and which ones are no longer with the company should be kept up-to-date, as disgruntled employees may try to do something malicious to the system.

Improperly configured firewalls, routers, switches, and servers can also be a detriment to a network. Setting up the router to accept only the IP addresses allowable should be done thoughtfully, since many variables can be implemented to keep intruders out.
