Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

• What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping? Discrimination is when you actually treat someone different based upon their race or group. Prejudice and stereotyping are different from discrimination. Being prejudice and stereotyping are really the same thing. Prejudice and stereotyping are when you pre judge people or you put people into a certain group when you don’t even really know them. You are just judging them by their looks or maybe just a first impression. For example, when you see a black male with a bunch of tattoos and they are sagging their pants you might think they are in a gang, and that would be stereotyping. If that same person came in to apply for a job and you didn’t hire him just because what he looked like that would be discrimination if he was as qualified as the next person.

• What are the causes of discrimination? Some of the causes of discrimination are just the way people were raised, differences in religion , or their own personal hatred towards a certain group based upon their personal experiences. There are lots of reasons why people discriminate against other people. I think the main cause for the majority of discrimination is the way people were raised. If you grow up all your life seeing the people you look up to discriminating aginst people then you will be more likely to do it yourself. Just think some places in the world have big differences in their views when it comes to gender. Some places women have to dress a certain way or they cant vote or whatever the case may be. This is just their way of life because that is what they were tought and that is what they are teaching their kids and it will continue unless someone puts a stop to it and sarts a change.
