Description of Course:
The law significantly impacts a myriad aspects of business. This course will introduce students to many of the fundamental legal issues that impact business. The course covers: the sources of the law, the court system, alternative dispute resolution, constitutional issues, contracts, torts, and business ethics. Additional topics may include labor law, environmental law, antitrust.
The course will include lectures, class discussions and PowerPoint presentations based upon assigned readings as well as instruction through relevant case studies.
Prerequisites:
Open only to matriculated graduate students in The Zarb School of Business and in other schools at Hofstra, where appropriate.

Objectives:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Describe the various legal structures that businesses can take;
• Analyze and propose solutions for selected organization/management issues in businesses;
• Recognize, analyze and find solutions to ethical dilemmas that present in the business arena;
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of significant legal requirements that impact businesses; and
• Understand the fundamentals of enforceable contracts.
