Abstract

Decisions can be influenced by family history, education, religious orientation, and personal experience. They are a part of daily life. Some decisions are made without a thought, but there are those decisions like career and education that require much more thought and consideration. A Christian should understand the importance of seeking spiritual guidance. It is important to go to God, seek wise counsel, as well as consider the unique gifts and talents that an individual possesses. God grants free will to choose and will eventually reveal His purpose within the decision.

Personal Position

Using common sense when making decisions is very important, Merriam-Webster defines common sense as a sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the facts. In other words, it is equivalent to a person’s background knowledge and experiences. More importantly, the use of common sense implies that current decisions are being based on the result of past experiences. I also find it important to consult the Bible, but admittedly, it is not always the first source I seek. Moreover, I consult the Bible for moral and ethical dilemma versus decisions for professional development. My dependence on the Holy Spirit giving me a sense of inner peace about my decisions is very important to me in any type of decision. I believe that God settles your mind and heart as a means of confirming the choice that was made is ordained by Him. It has been my experience that anytime I have made a choice that is in keeping with his will he has given me a sense of overall calmness. While it is important to feel the calmness of the Holy Spirit, seeking wise counsel is another key part of the process of achieving inner peace.
