Professional Knowledge and Abilities

Some college graduates may find that career success is hard to come by without the proper professional knowledge and abilities that many employers are looking for. This paper will attempt to show how organizations can help to increase the professional knowledge and abilities of individuals. It will also attempt to show that the knowledge and abilities learned can have a positive effect on career success. There are several organizations that an individual may rely on to expand his or her knowledge and abilities to help him or her achieve success in the career he or she chooses. Individuals seeking a career in web development often rely on the World Wide Web Consortium to help increase his or her knowledge of web standards, as well as their abilities in web programming.

Web standards change constantly and it is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that is responsible for a majority of the changes. "In October 1994, Tim Berners-Less founded the World Wide Web Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Laboratory of Computer Science in collaboration with CERN, where the web originated, with support from DARPA and the European Commission" (Facts About W3C, Para. 2). To this day W3C is lead by Tim Berners-Lee and CEO Jeffery Jaffe. "W3C's mission is to lead the world wide web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure the long term growth of the web" (W3C Mission, Para. 1). The World Wide Web Consortium develops web standards by working with member organizations and the public.

W3C develops web standards such as: "HTML & CSS...., Audio and Video...., Mobile Web...., Scripting and AJAX...., Accessibility...., Graphics...., Internationalization....,and Math on the Web...."
